News of Michael Jackson's death practically crashed the Internet. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone stated that MJ's death resulted in "the biggest jump in tweets per second since the U.S. presidential election." The number of Facebook status updates tripled. And AIM crashed for 40 minutes!
Along with being pop culture icons, Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett, who also passed away today, shared another commonality which centered around the public's fascination with their hair.
Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson: Hair yesterday and gone today. Sorry, I couldn't resist.
As I tweeted:
"It's okay everyone. MJ will be back...as a ZOMBIE doing the THRILLER DANCE!"
Update: Well that didn't take long.
Michael Jackson is selling bunch of his stuff at an auction. Some of it is expected like his rhinestone socks from the 1981 Triumph tour ($600-$800), but a lot of it is really bizarre like a fire engine tea kettle ($100-$200).
The plaque reads: "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Presented to Michael Jackson from the Cast of Walt Disney World". $1,000-$1,500
The prop 'scissorhand' gloves that Johnny Depp wore in Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands. $4,000-$6,000
A Sega flight simulation arcade game with safety barrier and attendant station. $4,000-$6,000
A marble chess table supported by four parcel gilt horses on marble pillars. $2,000-$3,000
A larger-than-life figure of Superman. $1,000-$1,500
This is something I want actually: A painting on stretched canvas featuring iconic figures such as Abraham Lincoln and Albert Einstein wearing Jackson's trademark sunglasses and glove. $1,000-$2,000

Chris, when not listening to John Mayer in his room, sent me this YouTube link of the inmates in a penitentiary in the Philippines--who gained Internet fame after a video of their mass synchronized Thriller dance hit YouTube (and predictably I blogged about it awhile ago)--doing Soulja Boy and U Can't Touch This: [youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=yYp2Aloz-uE&feature=bz302]
