Weekend Update: Ruben Ochoa

On Saturday afternoon, I went to see Ruben Ochoa's "Collapsed" installation. As I thought, it was impressive. What I wasn't prepared for was the art equivalent of a M.Night Shyamalan-esque twist. Spoiler alert: Click here to find out!

Jen Stark, Paper Sculptures

Miami artist Jen Stark creates these mesmerizing intricate paper sculptures that uses the same sort of construction paper and colors that remind me of elementary school art classes. She's having a solo exhibition here in New York City starting on May 16. I may be a bit tipsy from an engagement party I am attending beforehand, but I'll be at this opening. "Hidden Entity. "

"How to become a millionaire in 100 days." 1,000,000 pieces of hand cut paper.

Lost and Found Art

Created by Annemarieke Weber, the "Vindhek" or the "Find Fence" is a utilitarian piece of public art located throughout Amsterdam that serves a dual function as a communal lost-and-found. The artist writes:

My Findfence is meant to function as a communication device, simply, through lost and found personal belongings. A passer-by puts a dear kids toy in the Findfence, another finds back her key or his favourite cap that brings back so many wonderfull memories. Maybe loser and finder meet, recognize this friendly gesture and start a conversation, sitting on the bench that I designed around my Findfence to meet and chat, to exchange humane, warm attention or a beautifull smile.

Weekend Update

Last Saturday I went to a few art galleries in Chelsea. Richard Woods' The Nature Show at Perry Rubenstein Gallery.

Duane Hason's hyperrealist sculptures on display at Van De Weghe. I pointed out this old man forlornly sitting inside the door to Pooja as we walked by and she freaked out. I don't know why she hates old people so much.

This deconstructed violin caught my eye at DJT.

Mini koons.

Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity by Yayoi Kusama currently exhibiting at the Gogosian Gallery is a must-see.

...a mesmerizing "infinity room" that operates on a system of simple yet ingenious optical devices. In a dark void, a delicate, shimmering mirage unfolds around the viewer, a myriad of gleaming lights that reproduce and reflect endlessly upon each other in golden silence.

Pooja "slipping" on one of the pieces at the John Waters exhibit at Marianne Boesky Gallery.
