Having seen more than my share of Scott Campbell's dollar bill art they are just as impressive in person if not more than as they appear in photos. This New York based artist is having his first solo West Coast show at OHWOW gallery in LA.
One piece uses $11,ooo worth of currency sheets to create an over two-foot cube, into which a three dimensional skull is carved-out. These works employ the familiar blue-collar vernacular of tattoo flash-boards – a skull smoking a cigarette, a skeleton’s hand in a provocative gesture, a single eye emitting a penetrating ray – and highlight the irony that exists within that imagery.

Alexandre Arrechea's 20-foot steel "Orange Tree" is currently installed at Bronx Museum.
Orange Tree shifts familiar structures to engage viewers' perceptions of form and function, while raising questions about the role of street sports in urban culture.
Alternative title for piece: Dunking for All Abilities.

William Powhida, You, 2010.
The artist's response to a comment about this painting on his website is comedy gold.
