On November 1, 2008, the New York Hall of Science in Queens, New York will be hosting a paper airplane contest. OH HELLS YES. The following categories will be judged:
More rules and details here. Don't ask: No, your radio controlled F-18 model airplane will not qualify.

This fork specially designed to streamline the process of spaghetti twirling would be immensely useful in my life, as spaghetti and its cousin from Japan, ramen noodles are a central staple in my diet. Yes, I want to speed up further the process of consuming two of the easiest dishes to make known to mankind.

Last week I went to the Banksy pet shop exhibit in the West Village. Tres cool.
Sidewalk sign outside the shop.
[flickr video=2962804360] One of the window displays. This one featured CCTV creatures that seemed to react to the viewer. Of course Lea tried to ambush me while I was filming.
[flickr video=2961990687] Resting leopard.
[flickr video=2961963313] Close up of tail.
[flickr video=2961966963] McNuggets! Awesome.
[flickr video=2961970717] This was really disturbing to me.
[flickr video=2962823010] I'll never look at a hot dog the same way. I don't think I can eat one for awhile.
[flickr video=2962833232] More hot dog.
[flickr video=2962841138] Mesmerizing.
On the shelves.
Bubble gum machine with tarantula.
Lea enjoying a gum from the gum machine.
This picture makes me want to go vegetarian. Sorta.
Old Tweety bird.
Remember that leopard earlier? Yea, it's just a jacket. Gotcha!
Rabbit.
[vimeo http://vimeo.com/1842245] "Audience" on display at the Royal Opera House is a unique collection of 64 individually swiveling mirrors.
When members of the audience occupy the space, the mirrors inquisitively follow someone that they find interesting. Having chosen their subject, they all synchronise and turn their heads towards them. Suddenly that person can see their reflection in all of the mirrors. They will watch this person until they become disinterested, then either seek out another subject or return to their private chatter. The collective behaviour of the objects is beyond the control of the viewer, as it is left entirely to their discretion to let go of their subject.
They possess a certain paradoxical robo-organicism which I find remarkable.

Mother Jones points out that while the Obama campaign logo has been applauded as an excellent design, oppositely McCain's logo highlighted by "a shaded 5-pointed star" is actually nothing but a character from the font Zapf Dingbat, or more specifically shift-O.
This makes a lot of sense. It always did look very 1990s clip-arty to me.

Although I disagree strongly with Lynda's fascination fetish for rabbits I do agree with her about this particular movie theater:
I would gladly pay whatever premium it takes to go to a cinema designed like this (and then stay after the movie ends to take pictures ...) This particular "Light House Cinema" can be found in Dublin.
I know I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I also like the European system of assigned seatings at the cinema. Then again as some of you know I can be particularly neurotic about the whole movie thing.
I love the work produced by the graphic design firm Sam Potts Inc, especially this gallon can of gravity:

The wit! I love it.
Dear Mr Potts: Will you please design my website? Please?
Let this umbrella express how you feel about rain:

This coin-operated lamp designed by Jethro Macey is "the first product in a range based on the concept of values and reward, it subtly heightens awareness of consumption through design."

Here's a (nicely designed) website devoted to...typographic jokes and such. All you creatives will probably love it. Or not. I don't know. I like it though.
Q: How many art directors does it take to change a lightbulb? A: Does it have to be a lightbulb?Q: What did the 0 say to the 8? A: Nice belt.
Q: What typeface do fish fear most? A: Gill Sans.
HAHAHA. Gill Sans. Hah!

I don't know who the artist is behind this piece that Simko posted on her ever designlicious blog (Ashley, maybe you can enlighten?), but what I do know is that I like it.

There's also this:

Toothpaste product dissections by Erik Boker. Brilliantly horrifying (to me).

Witty fruit bowl by Thorsten van Elsten. Yours for £49.

According to his blog, apparently this item is popular on some Spanish porn site. I don't know what. I'm scared to click on the link to the actual site.
I like this whimsical paper airplane coffee table by Lorraine Brennon.
