Edward McNally grew up on the same street as John Hughes in Northbrook, Illinois, and may have been the inspiration or template for Ferris Bueller.
For one of those Chicago adventures, we secretly borrowed a car almost as ridiculously conspicuous as the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT in the movie: my dad's purple Cadillac El Dorado (yes, purple). Put an extra 113 miles on the odometer. Hoping to erase that telltale mileage, we raised the back on a pair of jacks and ran the car in reverse. The Caddy did not fly backward into a ravine, as in the film. What it did do is quickly take off a clean 10,000 miles. Oops. (Yes, you bet he noticed.)
Chicago Tribune goes behind the scenes at a Netflix warehouse outside of Chicago, one of 58 secretive warehouses around the world. It's a fascinating read.
Indeed, one of the few things about the building that suggested it was not a meth lab was that, at sunrise, the parking lot was full -- shifts begin at 3 a.m. The busiest time is around 7 a.m., but as I entered, the first thing I noticed was how silent it was. No one was chatting.
What kind of people wait in line all day for a chance to be an extra in the next "Sex and the City" movie? These people, including apparently an off-season Kris Kringle.
This one weirds me out.

The frightful roars of the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park have been hilroariously replaced with them saying "hi!" [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prgm4eKq6d4&fmt=18]
Among the many steps involved in the process of developing an animated film, especially ones as complex as those produced by Pixar, a color script is created, which is used by the filmmakers "to get a feel of the colour, mood, and visual atmosphere of the film." Check out these high res color script used in the production of Pixar's latest brilliant "Up." Of course if you haven't seen it yet and plan on doing so, here's your spoiler warning.

This video directed by Michael Gondry ("Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "Dave Chapelle's Block Party") is an oldie but goodie. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N3N1MlvVc4&fmt=18]

Where's Waldo during Fashion Week?
Universal picked up the rights to Waldo and is preparing to adapt it to the big screen as a live action film. Ugh.
The plot of that project revolved around Waldo, now 30, ending up traveling through time after accidentally activating a malfunctioning travel machine.

I saw Terminator this weekend. Verdict: Meh. Save yourself the 12 bucks and go get a sandwich instead from Porchetta.
More interesting than the movie is the director's name, McG. Frankly it's a real asshole-y sounding name, but the explanation is pretty straightforward.
"Believe me, I know, people hear the name and they just think, 'That guy must be a jerk,' " the 38-year-old said with a groan. "And having it hasn't helped me, that's for sure. But it's what everybody has called me forever."
The moniker wasn't handed to him at a college keg party or when McG worked as a top music video director during the 1990s; it was hung around his neck by his parents who put "Joseph McGinty Nichol" on his birth certificate back in Kalamazoo, Mich., but then decided "McG" would be a tidy way to avoid household confusion since the boy's grandfather and uncle were also named Joseph.
Other asshole-y sounding names: Stone Phillips, Vin Diesel, and Joseph Stalin.
