[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G9uGPQsVNk] Did you know that Ricky Gervais had a brief career in the 1980s as the front man for a new wave band named Seona Dancing? They were apparently HUGE in the Philippines. Hilarious.

After brunch this past weekend Pooja posted a photo she took of this bit of corporate "street art" authorized by the Brooklyn Industries store in Park Slope. Look at her photo again and you'll notice that the space beneath "Create" was painted over. What is that re-paint concealing? This:

Perhaps The greatest three days of live music in the history of music.
CBC's Sunday Edition takes the listener "on a cultural journey -- discussing the importance of music from Beethoven to Disco, and from Depression-era classics to rap" in a 20 episode series titled "20 Pieces of Music that Changed the World." You can stream all 20 segments online. It's really great and informative stuff.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7MiG2fe8lE] This Soul Train clip from 1973 is 2 minutes 56 seconds of unadulterated joy. My favorite dance is at the 1:10 mark. That move will definitely be done at the next impromptu dance party.
This reminds of this photo below that I took at the Dia this summer.

John Mayer's open letter to D'Angelo:
DEAR D'ANGELO, My name is John Mayer. You might know me from that "Your Body Is a Wonderland" song, or perhaps our mutual friend, Roots drummer? uestlove, mentioned me to you. I'm writing to ask you to put out a follow-up to one of the few records to change my life forever, Voodoo. When Voodoo came out in 2000, I stood in line at Tower Records in Atlanta at midnight to get it. Turns out, it set the gold standard for modern "neo" soul music. It's 2004, and I'm no less excited by it today than I was when I played it full blast in my mother's Plymouth Voyager on the way to my bullshit job. I drive a nicer car now, but I still listen to Voodoo and wonder what my albums would sound like if I took a bite off your style and what R&B would be like if you came back.
I will sign this petition.

I know this has been around for eternity in IT (Internet Time), but watch this great parody by comedian Billy Eichner of Jay Z and Alicia Keys' anthem "Empire State of Mind." While Hova boasts the greatness of New York City, Eichner with a guest appearance by SNL-alum Rachel Dratch (where the cuss did she disappear to?) proclaims the superiority of a specific neighborhood and religion. From the time capsule, here's a photo of musical group The Quarrymen, consisting of John Lennon and some of his high school classmates. Paul McCartney and George Harrison later joined the band. John, Paul, and George would all move on and attain some modicum of success and fame together in the band "The Beatles."
The people behind "autotune the news" apply their craft to Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGMXo6_gtRA&feature=player_embedded] From the 1983 time capsule, here's R.E.M. performing their cover of "I've Got You Babe," originally by Sonny and Cher.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIBvUvT6sVU&feature=player_embedded] Baby + Internet wins again. Pbad's Aya and Mun's baby duo need to step up their cuteness game.
I'm also reminded of this Sneezing Panda video by Nick Miller.
Semi-relatedly, there's this one of a goofy looking Jay Z.
