Weekend Update

Some random photos from this past weekend roaming around New York City. Dropped by some Chelsea art galleries.

Looks like a gallery had a little party the night before.

Creepy mannequin legs.

I like this piece. Forgot the artist though.

Coffee shop fun. I look forward to doing this to all coffee cups in my future.

Giant nutella.

New York I Love You

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZwVjys2bQI&fmt=18] As the weather becomes colder and that post-summer hangover sets in over New York City, the music video for John Mayer's "Who Says" reminds me why I'm so glad, as Simko said to call "one of the best cities in the entire world my home."

Yes, I said John Mayer. So what?

After the jump are photos of some of my favorite random moments, experiences, and memories in New York City.

The entire bar joins an impromptu electric slide line.

Everyone did the Kaizar dance in 2006.

Lots of teeth shown at a fun party at The Delancey.

A random weeknight in 2007.

Late night jumping photos in 2006.

Haha!!

Jazzy Jeff getting down to Talib's performance at the Hudson.

A passed out mime.

Runners in the NYC Marathon running past the front door of my apartment.

Banksy's pet supply pop up shop.

Bottles, bottles, bottles.

At the Beauty Bar.

Crashing another company's party.

Wearing the same V-neck shirts!

Ugly sweater parties.

Red and black and wig parties.

Zombies in Union Square.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP9EFTNGUCk] Chris going dumpster diving, sorta. And then having to return to this place to find his cell phone.

Front row view at Wilco concert in Brooklyn.

Signs

While walking through Williamsburg the other day, my friend pointed out this abandoned storefront with a sign missing some letters. She told me that each time her and her roommate walks by it, they try to decipher what the sign used to say. What say you?

Where The Thin Are

According to a recent study, Manhattan is the thinnest county in New York State and significantly more skinny than the rest of the country. Proud Manhattan locals attributed their thinness primarily to the fact it's a walking heavy city, however it's also important to keep in mind that the "island’s poorest areas, like Harlem, have high rates of obesity and diabetes."

Still the fact that 42 percent of Manhattanites can be categorized as obese seems incredibly high until you consider that national average is 67 percent! The majority of this country is obese! Talk about being large and in charge!

Weekend Update

Its been awhile since I've done a Weekend Update segment. Or a Last Night's Party one too come to think of it. Without further adieu, my weekend update below! I went to the Sneaker Pimps (Wale, Cool Kids, Big Boi, Jadakiss, and Clipse) concert last Friday night with a whole crew of peeps. It was fun, but by the time they finally hit the stage, this old man was exhausted.

As the tour name implies, sneaker culture was in full effect. They had kicks after kicks on display, including this fruit loops one.

I nearly lost it when I saw these sneakers that I had previously blogged about. WANT.

On Saturday I went to the X-Initiative, a unique multi-floor art gallery in Chelsea.

This informs the previous snapshot. This is an interesting project.

Is it a reflection? What's going on? I liked this for some reason I can barely explain. Maybe it's because I like wearing old broken in and dirty sneakers?

There was a table nearby with blank paper and pens for people to write complaints or whatnot on.

Go fer it. Tag it up ya'll.

This was my favorite part: swimming pool noodles reconfigured as lounge chairs on the roof!!!

I found them really comfortable.

This man thought so as well.

Someone replied to this street poster of Moby's new album.

Then I ended up in Central Park where I also ran into  friends  randomly! And then the floodgates opened and it started pouring forcing us to all seek immediate shelter.

I found the rain highly amusing.

Ayo says to the rain, "BRING IT ON."

Rain!

Soon after the clouds cleared and the sun shined once again.

The End.

Kenny Scharf, Cosmic Cavern

After a 20 year hiatus raising a couple daughters, pop artist Kenny Scharf, a former Eighties club kid who ran with the likes of Keith Haring, is back with this new psychedelic orgy of colors in Brooklyn: "Set in the basement of the Bushwick warehouse where Mr. Scharf has been living and working for about a year and a half, the Cavern is alive with the spirit of the early ’80s, lined in the Day-Glo-painted trash-bedecked panels he once deployed in nightclubs and galleries."

I don't think he'll get his security deposit back after the landlord sees this.

Ji Lee, Duchamp Reloaded

Uber-designer Ji Lee (previously) pays homage to French artist Marcel Duchamp by re-introducing one of his iconic and seminal pieces, "Bicycle Wheel" for the modern ages. On 3rd Avenue and Houston Street, New York

On 14th Street and 3rd Avenue, New York

And my personal favorite variation: In front of MoMA, 11 West 53rd Street, New York

An interesting reversal is also at work here: where Duchamp took objects found on the street, made slight adjustments to them and then displayed them in galleries and museums, here Ji Lee is doing the opposite. See what I pointed out there?

Weekend Update

Other than a few random parties, I visited the newly opened High Line, a public park built over an elevated old railway  in Manhattan's west side with the rest of New York City. Unfortunately, my camera battery died when I tried to use it so all I have are these shaky cell phone snapshots of the park. Go check it out. Even The Girl I went with, ever the critic, deemed it above average.

Last Night's Party

Last weekend I went to Hector's party on the rooftop of his apartment in the East Village. Tony and Hector talking about life and stuff.

Party drinks.

This is the official photo of summers: sunblock and vodka.

Rooftop scene.

Plaids!

Sky blue!

On my way home via the subway I stopped at Dunkin Donuts and McDonalds. Terrible idea.

The End.

Weekend Update

Couple weekends ago, I hung out in my Park Slope neighborhood including a stop over at the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co. nearby followed by some dranks and bocce ball cheerleading. Trying on the x-ray vision goggles.

Gravity in a can.

Some invisibility.

Vows of heroism. True.

We eventually ended up at Union Hall where we witnessed an epic bocce ball tournament won by this team here.

Haha.

The End.
