MROD PRODUCTIONS: THE STRANGE CARROT, PART 1

For your consideration: The Strange Carrot, Part 1 by Matthew Rodriguez. At work I found a strange carrot amongst its normal brethren who I consumed for their excellent antioxidant compounds and pro-vitamin A carotenes. The strange carrot however I left alone. I stared at it, unsure what to do with this mutated orange hued root vegetable when suddenly, inspiration struck! And I along with the strange carrot embarked on an adventure of creativity and imagination.

Please watch part 1 of the saga of The Strange Carrot:

HELLLLLLLLLLLEWEEWOOO?

This might not be the best thing to watch before passing out for the night (Damn you Metafilter!) but this dubbing of Lionel Richie's Hello is absurdly hysterical until the very end when it gets totally creepy. Warning: YMMV (Your mileage may vary) with this video.

WORKOUT MUSIC

I saw this music video of Eric Prydz vs. Floyd (Proper Education) at the gym the other day where it captivated quite a few of us. Cool song, cool music video. [youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=afa-2HErL70]

TRIUMP THE INSULT DOG AT BON JOVI CONCERT

I don't know how I missed this, but Drew sent it to me and although it's kind of long (that's what she said), this segment of Triumph the Insult Dog at a Bon Jovi concert this year in New Jersey is pretty damn funny. The band has a pretty good sense of humor about it all considering it's a puppet taking a shit the entire time on their entire musical career. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1EEqt0ovfE]

[Thanks Drew!]

THIS IS HOW THEY ROLL AND FLY AND DRIVE AROUND THE WORLD

1. In India, taking lean back to an extreme level on a motorcycle: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klteYv1Uv9A]

2. Piloting a RC jet through a highway tunnel (more impressive than it sounds trust me) with the nice Top Gun touch in the end:

3. AND THIS IS RIDICULOUS: sandal surfing in Saudi Arabia while hanging out of a fast moving car:

OCEANS 1: FAILED THEFT

This multi-security cam video of a failed theft of a convenience store is more hilarious than all the Oceans 11 movies added up, especially the very last scene. Watch the entire video as it gets more and more comical. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWn5pQRdzMk]

As my friend pointed out, the only thing that would have made this funnier is if he just had to pull the door to open it.

THE POWER OF THE BREAST

I may have to seek therapy after seeing this video of a top heavy woman appearing on America's Got Talent demonstrating her unique "talent." [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaZkP3OH_nQ]

STAR WARS DANCE OFF

This dance off featuring characters from the Star Wars universe at some theme park made me chuckle but also gave me a huge headache. Either way, in the amount of time it took me to post this, George Lucas just made 20 million dollars. Supposedly Lucas looked to classic hero's quest stories for guidance when he was writing Star Wars. This may be true. I just have a hard time making the leap from Gilgamesh to Darth Vader and his storm troopers dancing in synch to Thriller. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkTQwP2gFxU]

B-BOY KOREANS

B-Boy battles between a Japanese and a Korean crew. At times it resembles rhythmic gymnastics or tumbling set to a beat rather than an actual dance, but they are still dope. Here's another one between a Korean group versus a Russian one (wow, talk about the global appropriation of localized culture...) at a big competition: Part 1 [youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=EyJMUxJcYnw]

Part 2 [youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=aIZBdrMc2T4]

I was clued into this world by Angry Asian Man who alerted his readers to an interesting Salon article written by Jeff Chang (author of Can't Stop, Won't Stop) who pretty much knows his shit when it comes to this topic. Chang explores why the Koreans are pretty much dominating the hip-hop dance and b-boy battle scene around the world.

B-boy Robin, Russia's assassin in a brown Yankees hat, oversize polo shirt and cargo slacks, circles the floor and then taunts the Koreans by pulling back his eyes. Some in the crowd gasp at Robin's slanted-eye dis. But his subsequent solo, featuring a Tony Hawk-style hand plant and surging rolls broken up with one-armed freezes, is flawless. In what b-boys call a "commando" attack -- a routine in which a run is begun by one or more b-boys but finished by another, named for the post-gang-era Bronx dancers who invented it as a tactic to prevent the other crew from immediately responding -- C4 dives through two Rivers members and leaps straight at Robin, pulling his own eyes back, then miming a castration of Robin. The crowd roars.

Read more here.

Here's a segment on Koreans from the recent documentary Planet B-Boys which looks at this dance and lifestyle as its impacted youths around the world on nearly every continent. I haven't seen this movie yet but I've heard great things about it.

And this video titled "Run DMZ" featuring a dance off between North and South Korean guards at the DMZ zone is pretty much the best b-boy "music video" I've seen from concept to creation. It's spot on:

I can do exactly .1 percent of the moves shown in any of the aforementioned videos.

CRYING WRESTLING FAN

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNJdJOEtlyY] I can't imagine how he reacted after he found out Santa Claus isn't real.  Sorry kids. He ain't. But that giant easter bunny is totally legit.  He's a dick, but legit.
