Made in China

I can't seem to locate the origin of this popular photograph that went viral few months ago. Anyway, don't forget the first step: Cut a hole in the box.

Multi-Purpose Shovel

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b60OZhrTB6o] When Moye shared this promotional video of a shovel developed by the Chinese military, my immediate thoughts were 1) this sounds like the most boring YouTube video ever; 2) Moye is where unfunny happens; 3) it's past midnight and I've seen everything else on the Internet, so I might as well watch this dumb shovel video. It turned out to be the most amazing 8 minutes, 47 seconds of my life. As one YouTube commenter said, "better than ipad!!"

I'm filing this under "WANT."

Hundred Layer Lasagna

I'm absolutely drooling over Del Posto's new 100 layer lasagna.

Yes, that’s 100 layers: 50 practically transparent sheets of handmade pasta, alternating with 50 layers of sauce (Bolognese, besciamella, and marinara). Each 80-portion pan has to go into the oven by 1:30 P.M. every day. Otherwise, it doesn’t have enough time to cool and coalesce by dinner and completely collapses when you try to slice it. It takes three kitchen stations and many hands to put it together. Skewers hold it in place while it sets. You need a special spatuala to serve it.

This is why we're fat. And I'm okay with that so long as it involves 100 layers of lasagna.

Shake Shack Burger Recipe

If you don't already know, the Shake Shake burger is practically a religion for some New Yorkers. One blogger at Serious Eats reverse engineered the burger, including the all important special sauce.

I walked back into the restaurant, went straight up to the manager, and asked point blank: "Is the Shack Sauce a secret, or can you tell me what's in it?" A little laugh, and then, "It's mostly mayo, with some ketchup, mustard, a few spices, and pickles blended in."

Facts about Bill Murray

New York Magazine recently sat at a table with Bill Murray during a dinner at Tribeca Film Festival and shared the following little known facts about this actor.

  • He will commit to memory the name of everyone at the table, making introductions each time a new person sits down.
  • He will make friends with the waiters and give them nicknames. “Handsome” will now be your server.
  • He will intentionally mishear offhand comments you make about the food and repeat them endlessly. You say, “seafood,” he hears “zebra.” You call the roasted carrots “exciting”; he hears “Poseidon.” As in, “Zebra! I never get to eat zebra! Want some zebra?” or “Have some Poseidon. Some Poseidon. Some Poseidon.”

He's good at remember names because he's already met you a thousand times over. DUN DUM DUMMMM.
