Ultimate Re-Branding

Brand New, a blog that analyzes companies re-branding attempts, dissects the new logo for USA Ultimate, the governing body of the sport of Ultimate Frisbee (Yes, it's a sport a-holes).

The new logo is an improvement in the sense that it looks more marketable, like something you would have on a t-shirt, but ultimately the logo is quite disappointing.

The Hotel Inntel

The newly built (and stunning) Hotel Inntel is anchoring the revitalization efforts of the town center of Zaandam in the Netherlands.

Designer Wilfried van Winden envisioned a place in which guests could feel at home, even when away from home. Therefore, the hotel has been designed to look like stacked houses, resembling a range of residences from a notary’s manse to a worker’s cottage. In fact there are about 70 little houses in four shades of Zaanse Schans green. Particularly eye-catching is the “The Blue House,” inspired by the eponymous artwork that Claude Monet painted in Zaandam in 1871.

Not sure when I'll ever find myself in this town, but hopefully someday I can check in to this hotel for a stay.

"I'm not just a font. I am a force of motherfucking nature."

Comic Sans is mad and isn't going to take it anymore: I'm Comic Sans, Assholes.

You don't like that your coworker used me on that note about stealing her yogurt from the break room fridge? You don't like that I'm all over your sister-in-law's blog? You don't like that I'm on the sign for that new Thai place? You think I'm pedestrian and tacky? Guess the fuck what, Picasso. We don't all have seventy-three weights of stick-up-my-ass Helvetica sitting on our seventeen-inch MacBook Pros. Sorry the entire world can't all be done in stark Eurotrash Swiss type.

100 Most Creative People

Fast Company lists the 100 most creative people.

This year's 100 Most Creative People offers our own, idiosyncratic perspective on business. The selections reflect the breadth of news ideas and new pursuits at play in our business landscape. From interface designer Yugo Nakamura to HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins to futurist Ray Kurzweil, we can attest that creativity is alive and well in 2010.

Interesting layout too: each person's profile also displays feeds from their various online social media accounts such as their Flickr, blog, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.

Did Manute Bol Invent "My Bad?"

While reading on the sad news of Manute Bol's passing this weekend, I came across this tidbit that suggests that Bol "might have been responsible for coining and/or spreading the phrase "my bad." If not, at the least, evidence points towards him being the "first pro basketball player to regularly use "my bad."

Saddest IMDB Profile

The IMDB page for Anne Sellors is seriously the most depressing thing I've ever seen. Anne's only credit:

1. Threads (1984) (TV) (uncredited) .... Woman who urinates herself.

Depressing on so many and all levels.

For Your Consideration

There's lazy and then there's this. It's also an interesting cross section of this weird society we live in: a nurse, lazy woman, a soldier, and stereotypically dressed teenager waiting in line at a Burger King. I'm still trying to figure out the punchline though.
