Recently, I had the opportunity to ride the new N Train. This baby is a sweet ride, let me tell ya'. This baby is a sweet ride. Its aesthetics reminds me of the silver bullets that dash around the 4,5,6 track, but it's clearly a better and improved version.
I'm particularly loving the digitalized LED signs (similar to the L train) that lets you know what the next stop is without having to decipher the muffled and distorted 'wa-wa' announcements of the MTA driver. This might not seem like a big deal to those of you who live on Union Square or whatever, but sometimes the N runs randomly local and other times express, and that's a pretty important distinction--whether the N is local or express--if I want to get home in a timely manner.
These new trains also have a handlebar that runs along the middle of the car, which is convenient for those rush hour crowds. That feature means I no longer have to "hold onto" the ceiling (difficult considering its flat surface...) when I find myself unfortunate enough to be stuck in the middle of the car with seemingly nothing else to latch onto.
The roommate, Chris, wasn't so into the harsh and unforgiving fluorescent lighting, but I sort of like it. It gives the trains a certain sterile ambience that, in some way, assures me that I'm in safe hands as I hurtle through the deep tunnels and over the East River.
I can't wait until these trains are added to the D line.
This entry might possibly be one of the least sexiest topics I've ever written about. Again, this ought to be added evidence of my extreme dorkism and nerdocidity.
