McCain's silence until now about the simmering undercurrent of violence at his rallies with some yelling “off with his head” in reference to Obama, and whispers that Obama is essentially a terrorist (which is quite laughable if it weren't for the fact that his running mate Sarah Palin sincerely subscribes to that crazy notion) is egregiously irresponsible and is yet another indictment of McCain's lack of leadership.  His silence lit this dangerous spark and his supporters now appear to be a runaway train of prejudiced, hateful, uneducated, violent, conspiracy nutsos with McCain the conductor holding a broken brake handle.

When a man told him he was “scared” of an Obama presidency, Mr. McCain replied, “I want to be president of the United States and obviously I do not want Senator Obama to be, but I have to tell you — I have to tell you — he is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared" of "as president of the United States.” The crowd booed loudly at Mr. McCain’s response.

To quote Top Gun: Senator McCain, you've lost the edge.
