Definition of Commitment

The guy not doing a shot and looking depressed for it should look familiar to frequent readers of this blog. He's usually featured in last night's party recaps holding a Jameson bottle or some variation thereof.

Dedication is another word that comes to mind. As does "man, religion is a beeyatch sometimes!"

Rev. Lowry's Inauguration Benediction

Reverend Lowry's benediction at President Obama's inauguration ended strong as one of the more memorable moments.

REV LOWERY: Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get back, when brown can stick around -- (laughter) -- when yellow will be mellow -- (laughter) -- when the red man can get ahead, man -- (laughter) -- and when white will embrace what is right.

Let all those who do justice and love mercy say amen.

AUDIENCE: Amen!

REV. LOWERY: Say amen --

AUDIENCE: Amen!

REV. LOWERY: -- and amen.

AUDIENCE: Amen! (Cheers, applause.)

Mormon for Equal Rights

The Wall Street Journal reports that Proposition 8, a "state ballot measure to ban gay marriage in California is gaining momentum, with polls showing almost even odds of it passing after trailing by double digits a month ago" thanks in large part to "an advertising blitz heavily bankrolled by the Mormon Church, which suggests, among other things, that if Proposition 8 doesn't pass then schoolchildren will be indoctrinated about gay marriage." This Mormon presents a persuasive and cogent counter-argument that articulately explains why this is an untenable and hypocritical stance for the Mormon Church.

It always saddens me when people with their own historical legacy of suffering from persecution deny equal rights to others. I don't understand it.

Creation Myth: The World Rests on a Spider that Rests on a Frog that Rests on a Turtle

If we're going to advocate teaching Creationism like VP nominee Sarah Palin in our science and history classes as a viable "theory" thatreceives "equal representation with other theories of the origin of life" then that curriculum better damn well include the one about our planet resting on the back of a spider which rests on the back of a frog that rests on the back of a turtle. It's just as valid. And I don't know about you, and no disrespect, but I think this earth-spider-frog-turtle explanation is a better look than a vengeful and wrathful Old Testament God.

WORST ARGUMENT EVER.

Moron uses an example of a banana-- "the atheists' nightmare" --to prove the existence of God, because a banana perfectly conforms to the human hand, indicators that signal that it's ready to eat, and a tab (I think it's called a stem) that permit easy peeling for consumption. Ergo, GOD. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4yBvvGi_2A]

Of course, there are more of God's creations that puts the fear of His religiosity into the heart and minds of atheists:

The point about bananas also being shaped like a handy gun, for self protection against the heathens, is another compelling piece of evidence. He left out another feature of the banana that is so naturally useful: It can also work as a PHONE! The banana phone gets crystal clear reception and comes with unlimited minutes for the true believers.

LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOR

This is an oddly compelling remixed video of one of those stadium church evangelist preachers (Benny Hinn it seems) faith healing people by literally bitch-slapping them across the face, including old ladies as the "touched," i.e., pushed, punched, slapped "faithful" subjects and congregation literally hit the floor in a dramatic collapse that strangely reminds me of the time Kurt Angle smelled what the Rock was cookin' and got knocked out flat on the mat. Watch with the sound on.

Who knew religion was so heavy metal?!
