Weekend Update

Thursday was the monthly supper club with Tony and Stan. As always, great conversation, great (new) food, a bottle of red, and a split bill.

Friday was the opening night of the new documentary Catfish, which I saw with Lynda. After the screening, the director Ariel Schulman and the executive producer, Brett Ratner held a Q&A session with an enthusiastic audience. This is a fantastic film. I highly recommend it, especially for those of you actively plugged into the digital grid.

2010-09-17_10-35-41_655 Saturday night I suited up.

Drinks from the 44th floor for the start of Kenny's big 3-0 birthday party. The 30 bus is pretty crowded now.

Cyrus, Kumar, and Kenny looking composed before it got too hectic. And for the rest of the night, I got my celebration and dancing on. Thank you to the blond later at the club whose name I misplaced.

Sunday, I nursed my hangover, wrote a few thank you letters, and rewarded myself for a hard week of work and play with some Halo Reach.

On Saturday night I checked out the first American branch of Mario Batali's mega Italian mart Eataly where the croc wearing chef was there in person himself.

Last Night's Party

In addition to the perfect weather, Sunday was quite excellent due to Mike, an old college buddy's visit. We had an action packed afternoon: beers by the pier, jaunt down the Highline, a stop at Standard's beer garden, appetizers at Ippudo, Japanese grubbing at Village Yokocho, and then ending the night with karaoke at Duets 35 with the above awesome photobomb by Mike.

Good seeing you Mike! Thanks for being a long time reader of this inane blog despite your busy doctor schedule of looking at penises all day. Congrats on the upcoming addition to the Lee family! Let me know next time you come to NYC to look at baby strollers.

Google Bugged

Business Insider reports someone in Google's marketing team tweeted that bed bugs have been discovered at Google's New York office in Chelsea. And someone in the comments claimed that they were also found at AmEx's building which hits a little too close to my office. In case you missed it, here's a recent New York Times article about how researchers and scientists basically don't know what to do about these blood thirsty critters.

Weekend Update

I had a Sunday Funday this past weekend with Mariya after she dropped off at my apartment a new lamp that she picked up for me at IKEA a couple months ago (Thanks Mariya!). In exchange for bringing the lamp, I bribed her with food. She chose Burger Joint. The burger doesn't look too tasty in the photo, but trust me: it's good.

Mariya's pained-looking expression makes it seem like I forced her to pose for this photo, but this was all her idea.

On our way to the park by the piers on the west side, I became distracted by this fountain. It was also 90-something degrees hot this day so this was the perfect way to cool off.

Mariya runs in as well.

"Mariya, put your face in the water." "OKAY!"

"I'm running in there again!"

I seriously couldn't get enough of the fountain. It was so fun. I remember once when I was approximately 11 years old, I got so distracted by this children's fountain at the Winter Palace (I believe) in St. Petersburg that I became quite lost from my mom. Pretty scary experience when you're 9 and worse, you're surrounded by a bunch of COMMIES. Joking.

And then we randomly bumped into Ayo at the park. This was him trying to give the illusion of levitating.

Went to Brooklyn Bridge Park on Saturday to visit my old college friends (now married), Storey and Ravi and their kid who is a finalist in the Cutest Kid Ever contest.

View of downtown Manhattan from Brooklyn.

Delicious Red Hook lobster roll before I devoured it in 15 seconds.

Last Night's Dinner

A few friends and I have started a monthly supper club where one person selects a relatively new restaurant that we all dine at. The inaugural meal was held at 6th Street Kitchen in the East Village. The food was delicious and inventive in a non-intimidating atmosphere. My friend Annie (Thanks!) hooked us up with a few complimentary plates, which was fantastic as well. If you need a versatile restaurant with tasty food and wine for a casual dinner with a few friends, a romantical date, or an outing with a large group of friends, then this space is ideal. A few photos below of some of the plates that we ordered. Some dishes were not photographed (like the amazing chorizo sliders) because...well, they looked too good and we ate them before I thought to snap a photo.

So Meta

It's interesting to see that Inception had an impact on graffiti artists and taggers as well. By the street sign, I want to say this was taken in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, but to truly know we need to go deeper.

Last Night's Party

Its been awhile since I've done one of these party recaps. I belong to a little karaoke crew and we go about once a month to Duets. We're each allowed to bring one or two plus ones. After cursing me for the past month for not yet inviting him, Ayo (along with repeat guest Mariya) came along for the raucous thing that is karaoke. This is our story. Before karaoke, we usually eat and drink somewhere beforehand around KTown. Bon Chon and their magical fried chicken is often the default location. While eating, we noticed that Ayo has an OCD way of eating his chicken. While the rest of us tossed the bones into the communal trash, Ayo neatly and obsessively lined his up like some twisted fried chicken graveyard on his plate.

During dinner Mariya regaled with tales from the most dramatic wedding ever, a wedding where she was deeply bit by a dog. Here, she showed off the bite and by show I mean, we held her arm down so we could look and go "ewwwww."

Once at Duets, it didn't take long for us to shift into karaoke fifth gear. This picture was taken around the third song I believe and people are already standing on the seat.

I won't say who but Rolando accidentally knocked off Andy's glasses which meant for Lynda: PHOTO OP!

Ayo too concurred: PHOTO OP!...as Andy points at his blind eyes, "Ummm guys..." Andy had been talking about getting new glasses anyways so I think we actually all did him a big favor.

I don't remember what we were singing, but apparently Ayo and I are the only ones that think this song was worth raising our arms for.

Rolando FINALLY recognized the song. And he was happy.

RAWWWRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I was saying to Andy, "I'M SORRY I SPILLED YOUR DRINK ON YOUR SHIRT. I WILL BE WILLING TO PAY FOR ITS DRY CLEANING." Andy replied, "IT'S OKAY BRO."

Whatever Mike was singing in the background this whole time was making us dance!

Lynda singing earnestly. Andy thinking "What am I singing??" Jay photo bombing.

Andy hitting them high notes. His fallen testicles are somewhere on the ground.

I'm speechless. Just when we think Andy's run out of expressions he pulls this.

Lynda wants more Bon Chon fried chicken.

We all had been waiting for over an hour for Jodeci's "Lately" aka one of the greatest songs of love, heartbreak and harmony. When it finally started playing we. went. crazy.

We went crazy for Jodeci except for Lynda who had never heard it before. I can sense your outrage. Lower your pitchforks people.

And on that note, the end.

Cool Helmet

134874397 On Saturday I was invited on a bicycle tour of gourmet shops around downtown Manhattan that was organized by a friend of a friend. One of the participants wore this Evel Knievel helmet which I thought was just way too cool for school. The age of the owner of this helmet that I coveted? Seven.
