Melo State of Mind

I'm stoked for Carmelo Anthony's addition to the Knicks, but when his decision was still up in the air I thought this jersey of the three suitors for Melo's talents was hysterical.

Weekend Update

I had an amazing long weekend - unfortunately no photos. Thursday: Saw "Rain," a Broadway play that was essentially a Beatles cover band.

Friday: Date with a dancer that took us from Ace Hotel to Living Room to 3rd Floor Cafe.

Saturday: Classy drinks with a few friends at the cocktail "speakeasy" bar Raines Law Room.

Sunday: Bought some Nestle ice cream drum sticks, got caught up on MTV's "I Used to be Fat," and had a marathon Call of Duty session.

Monday: Brunch with Chris at The Smile and my monthly supper club held at Northern Spy.

Highlight of weekend: Obviously my 33 kill, 7 deaths Call of Duty match.

First International Trailer for Norwegian Wood

The Guardian has the first international trailer for Anh Hung Tran's adaptation of "Norwegian Wood," which was my first introduction into the brilliant magical worlds created by Haruki Murakami. I do have to acknowledge Ashleigh for introducing me to him some years ago. I think we're still friends. I hope we are.

Also, while I think this is antithetical to the author's philosophy, there's a Haruki Murakami Reading Challenge.

Best in Show

As I was watching a bit of the annual Westminster dog show last night the announcers stated that no Golden Retriever has ever won Best in Show, which I think is a god damn travesty. Any one of the three Goldens, especially Rudy (RIP) in the middle left in the photo above, that I grew up with is a thousand times handsomer and smarter than any of the other dogs at the competition at Madison Square Garden yesterday.

Money Does Not Buy Happiness

J. Paul Getty III, member of the Getty oil dynasty family, died recently at the age of 54. His life sucked.

  • He was kidnapped when he was 16 and when his father and grandfather refused to pay the ransom without evidence that it was not a hoax. Four months later, the kidnappers, demanding $3 million, cut off the kid's right ear and sent it as evidence.
  • His billionaire grandfather paid $2.2 million in ransom ("the maximum that his accountants said would be tax-deductible"). His grandfather lent the remaining to the father...at a 4 percent interest.
  • He was disinherited by the same grandfather who disapproved of his marriage and received nothing in the will.
  • He became addicted to alcohol and drugs, from which he had an overdose that led to a stroke leaving him wheelchair bound, paralyzed, unable to speak and partly blind.

Money don't buy happiness, kids.

That is a Question I Cannot Answer for You

While I was recently browsing J Crew's website, I got a pop-up message from their online chat customer service. Inspired by Guboogi's friend (also named Matt) I had the following conversation with "Erin."

Erin: Hello! How may I help you?

Me: I'm curious about the 484 slim fit jeans, but first I'm wondering...what is the meaning of our existence?

Erin: I am sorry, that is a question I cannot answer for you. Each persons meaning is different, only you can decide what the meaning of your existence is.

Erin: Now, how can I assist you with item 33367?

Me: How much do those jeans shrink or stretch?
