Manhattan Summer Heat Tradition

It's supposed to hit 100 degrees or more tomorrow in New York City, which reminds me of  this opening voice-over narration to one of my all time favorite classic comedies, The Seven Year Itch.

The island of Manhattan derives its name from its earliest inhabitants - the Manhattan Indians. They were a peaceful tribe, setting traps, fishing, hunting. And there was a custom among them. Every July when the heat and the humidity on the island became unbearable, they would send their wives and children away for the summer, up the river to the cooler highlands, or if they could afford it, to the seashore. The husbands of course, would remain behind on the steaming island to attend to business - setting traps, fishing, and hunting.

What an Asshole

Gavin Stanger, 24, of East Wenatchee, Washington attempted to smuggle the following items into jail rectally: a green cigarette lighter, cigarette rolling papers, a golf-ball size baggie of tobacco, a bottle of tattoo ink, eight tattoo needles, a one-inch-long smoking pipe and a small baggie of suspected marijuana. For Your Consideration

This is the sort of quality day time television that those of us working during the day miss.

Also, my advice to this girl who can't stop noshing on toilet paper: stop or just stop admitting you enjoy the finest fiber offered by Charmin, because who seriously is asking questions that would compel you to  admit and disclose such a (Ed. disgusting) habit. Of all the subjects and issues there are to discuss in this world, how does one end up on this topic? Now that her secret has been revealed to the world, she's  going to be the butt of a lot of jokes.
