Nike Files Patent for Marty McFly Sneakers

Remember the blazing auto-lacing Nike sneakers from "Back to the Future 2" (pictured above)? Well, sneaker freaks unearthed a patent submitted by Nike that looks an awful lot like the ones worn by Marty McFly. The film was set in 2015 too, which makes the timing pretty damn suspicious. These might be a pair worth waiting in line for. Click the above link for more scans of the patent application.

Japanese Whiskey Commercial Featuring Sammy Davis Jr.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F8xhAsyvE8&feature=player_embedded] Amazing vintage Japanese commercial for Suntory whiskey (Yes, the same one from "Lost in Translation") starring Sammy Davis Jr. Make sure your volume is turned on.

Relatedly:

The inspiration for having Bob Harris do a Suntory whisky commercial was partially inspired by the fact that Sofia Coppola's father, made a real Suntory commercial with Akira Kurosawa in the 1970s.

Someone please upload this to YouTube. Thank you.

Blue Roses Falling

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y82npOI0Va0&feature=player_embedded] I really like this song and video of Jake Shimabukuro playing "Blue Roses Falling." It's quite zenful to me. A ukulele on a float in the blue waters of Hawaii? Yes please.

Dos Equis x KAWS

KAWS shows off on his blog his latest stuff: a collaboration with Dos Equis. A nice move by this resurgent beer company to strengthen their brand by flashing their indie and street credentials (KAWS is with us) to appeal to the inside-track pop art crowd.

Last Night's Dinner

A few friends and I have started a monthly supper club where one person selects a relatively new restaurant that we all dine at. The inaugural meal was held at 6th Street Kitchen in the East Village. The food was delicious and inventive in a non-intimidating atmosphere. My friend Annie (Thanks!) hooked us up with a few complimentary plates, which was fantastic as well. If you need a versatile restaurant with tasty food and wine for a casual dinner with a few friends, a romantical date, or an outing with a large group of friends, then this space is ideal. A few photos below of some of the plates that we ordered. Some dishes were not photographed (like the amazing chorizo sliders) because...well, they looked too good and we ate them before I thought to snap a photo.

The Inside Story of How "Madden NFL" Became a Video Game Dynasty

Interesting ESPN article on the early history of the now video game behemoth EA's Madden NFL. They originally wanted Joe Montana. Instead they got coach Madden. Madden was later offered the option of purchasing EA shares at the IPO price when it went public. He turned it down.

From 1989 to 1999, EA's share price went from $7.50 to $70. Madden laughs. "That was the dumbest thing I ever did in my life."
