On Saturday night, I went out to Queens for the first time to party. On our way out of the subway station, I spotted this sign.

In the first commercial in a new ad campaign focusing on the brand of AT&T with positivity and a feel good message, a voice over asks "Remember when you were 5, and anything was possible?" My immediate response is "No, I was in an orphanage at the time. This is awkward now."
Add one part flash mob, one part synchronized dancing by kids in a public setting and you have the latest viral marketing effort from H&M. I've said it before, but if the future of advertising and marketing involves massively synchronized dancing then I TOTALLY CAN'T WAIT FOR THE FUTURE. Also, an Asian high five to the kid who kicks off the whole event.

My roommate walked in last night with a huge yellow box labeled "Stimulus Packaged" and announced that it was addressed to me. I was both surprised and a little fearful-as stupid as it sound but the Unabomber definitely came to mind-since I had not ordered anything lately.
As Sarah looked over my shoulder, I opened the box slowly. I found it filled with golden yellow streamers. At this point I may have quoted the "fragile...it must be French" line from The Christmas Story.
Instead of a female leg-shaped lamp, I found a dozen boxes of Golden Graham cereal boxes.
I apparently won these as part of a "Golden Grahams Golden Grant" promotion run by General Mills. I don't recall entering the contest, but I probably will enter marketing contests and giveaways more frequently now! This is the second best grant after the MacArthur Genius Grant!
After brunch this past weekend Pooja posted a photo she took of this bit of corporate "street art" authorized by the Brooklyn Industries store in Park Slope. Look at her photo again and you'll notice that the space beneath "Create" was painted over. What is that re-paint concealing? This:
I don't think an $8.88 grand slam breakfast special is quite what Martin Luther King saw when he went to the mountaintop. I mean, a 6 oz'r is kinda chintzy.
More than 99 bottles were used to create this Christmas tree, which was actually built using 1,000 Heineken beer bottles. Currently it's on display in Shanghai.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7CsuKvo72Y] A (damn lucky) panda and his buddy tear around LA in exotic sports cars and get into general wildness with the sort of hot women that appear straight out of Tiger Woods' Side Piece central casting in this fun promotional video for a luxury car rental company created and directed by my friend Nick Miller (the hit-maker behind the Facebook Gangsta). Watch until the very end of the short for a Hangover-esque ending.
Shameless plug on behalf of my friend: Please Digg this video!
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPypWdiC06c] Over 200 beach goers participated in this synchronized dance by a flash mob on Bondi Beach near Sydney, Australia to the tune of Ben Lee. It starts off a little unappetizing, but definitely improves when some of the ladies join in, although this still isn't as good as the flash mob dance in this T-mobile viral ad.
Gold painted shopping carts were made available to customers at the grand opening of a new gourmet grocery store, Okko in Istanbul.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6PSbUl_68k] The view from this arm chair is out of this world in this viral ad video to promote a Toshiba LCD TV. Ad agency Grey London attached a helium balloon to a red armchair and sent it soaring 98,268 feet high. More details here.
Balloon chair 1, balloon boy 0.
I got asked to share this "viral" video created for Samsung featuring a paint battle royale held in Sao Paulo where weapons of paint destruction included paint grenades, bow and arrows, and a sweet catapult. Players were recruited from various social networks to form the various "armies." Don't worry, no one "dyed" during the fight. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uH1vHu9v2YY&fmt=18]
