Bacon Donut '08!

This is one team that the whole country can get behind (except for those deviant vegetarians and vegans). Relatedly

If you didn't see it before, I filmed my coworker Randy enjoying an advanced version of this donut:

Palin Pissing off Alaskans

The McCain campaign's control over access to Sarah Palin (I'm STILL waiting for an unscripted Q&A session with reporters from her) extends to her fellow Alaskans and it's starting to really piss off her constituents mightily in that 49th state.

In stubbornly independent Alaska, the sudden intrusion of a political campaign into so many corners of state government -- not to mention Wasilla, where a dozen or more campaign researchers and lawyers have also begun overseeing the release of any information about Palin's years as mayor -- has touched a raw nerve. McCain staffers have even been assigned to answer calls for Palin's family members, who have been instructed not to talk.

"Why did the McCain campaign take over the governor's office?" the Anchorage Daily News demanded in an editorial Saturday. "Is it too much to ask that Alaska's governor speak for herself, directly to Alaskans, about her actions as Alaska's governor?"

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who knows anything about the state of Alaska. We're a fiercely independent bunch of libertarians who want our annual oil check to be around at least $1500 per person and access to our elected officials.

Quote

The following quip has been attributed to former British Chancellor Dennis Healey who is believed to have said:

There are three things in life you should never believe: yes, I will still love you in the morning; the cheque is in the post; and hello, I’m a politician and I’m here to help.

Man, ain't that the truth.

Update

I'll be in San Francisco for awhile on vacation visiting friends. I'll try to update this as much as I can in between bouts of sightseeing, drinking, and eating. In the meantime, I leave you with this video of a cat versus a printer. Watch until the very end for the payoff.

The Hills Screensaver

For those of you with macs, download The Hills screensaver now! Will it grace your computer with inane chatter about fashion and parties? Will it show images of Lauren Conrad looking hot, but distantly angry?

Nope! Just zenful "beautifully rendered rolling green hills covered in perfectly-manicured grass."

Download it here.

Ill Communication: Cell Phone Versus Washing Machine

What I thought would be an uneventful early afternoon of laundry turned into anything but that. My cell phone accidentally was mixed in with my laundry and received a lengthy dip in the wash cycle. The end result:

Suffice to say I've lost all of my friends and acquaintances' contact information. So if you see this please send me your phone number.

I recently came across this "Verizon anti-iPhone tip sheet."

GOOGLE: MAN VERSUS TIGER

In today's themed Google homepage they feature a tiger engaging in what appears to be tae kwon do, a Korean martial art, against a human competitor. This is dumb.

While humans sit at the top of the food chain thanks to our technology, in a battle of brute strength we are but mere delectable meals to many animals, especially the tiger. Tigers are skrong ferocious animals with skin piercing sharp claws and teef. Tigers are aggressive, no doubt about that. They can effortlessly leap 12 feet into the air and weigh in at 350 lbs.

So a tiger doing tae kwon do? Stupid. Go back to what works, son. Use them claws and teef.

AQUAMAN TATTOO

Holy crap! As regular readers know, I'm a fan of Aquaman, but this guy takes his fandom to another level. Like on a permanent level. This is one hell of an aggressive tattoo.

I wonder where this falls on the scale of pop culture fanaticism. On one end (the least extreme side I guess), we have the waits-in-line-for-new-Star-Wars people. And all the way over on the other end, the event horizon if you will of extremist fans, we have the furries who have sex only with other furries (is that redundant?).

PHOTO

Earlier this week N sent me an e-mail asking me "When was this [photo] taken?" I had no idea what he was referring to until I saw the photo he attached that he found on his laptop and then I remembered. A couple months ago I was hanging out with ma' friend Lauren at N's apartment. He left us to go party and we lazily stayed behind to watch TV. Lauren and I decided to leave him a gift on his laptop that he had left out on the coffee table.

Journey back in time and see what your high school yearbook may look like starting with the 1950s at YearbookYourself. I jumped into this time machine as well and posted some of them below. Warning: What you are about to see may be disturbing, and minors and the elderly are advised to look away.
